Hi it's Lukas here. I'm writing to tell you all about my crazy weekend. I was going for a ride on my horse Jingy. We emerged from the stables into the dimness of the early evening. As we were riding along a blaze of lightning lit up the sky.nThen there was a deafening clap of thunder.  My horse whined and galloped away she came to a halt and hurled me off. I walloped my head and when I stood up it churned. The horse had ran away back into the stables and my Mum quickly shut the gate. I slowly walked back home. I hoped you enjoyed reading my story.

Going to the movies

I went in my mum’s car with my mum, my brother Reuben and me. When we got there my body shock with fright when the loud music and bright lights of the movie started. The music stopped and the movie started I wondered what the music would be like. It said Doctor proctor and the fart powder. Doctor proctor invented some powder that made you shoot up into the air when you farted. But Doctor proctor didn’t know what he would use  the fart powder for so he said “this is useless”. “No it isn’t” we will think of something” said one of the kids who where watching from over the hedge next door.The next day  the kids came to Doctors proctors house’. They said “we have thought of something”. What!!!! said Doctor proctor. Two kids said “maybe we can sell them at the school disco tomorrow”. Ok first we need to test them. So the next day they went down to the park to test the fart powder he went shooting into the air so high and it was so stinky that you count not even look at it. When we was back on his feet he had a hole in his pants that was really funny. So the next day they sold them at the school disco and made $523 dollars out of the fart powder. Then some people knocked on the Doctors door and said “look at what you have done and look how much damidge you have done to my kids” so they called the police and they saw the damidge that had happened to the kids so they put Doctor proctor in jail and one kid and there was only one kids left to try and save them but the kids where not actually hurt they where in suits they where tricking so the kid said to the police what happened to the liers so Doctor proctor and one of the  kids came out of jail aswhell as Doctor proctor and the two kids who lied and the dad went into the jail.

Lukas' holiday story

As we arrived at the huge zoo car park I smelt
hot burning mud. It was coming from the Hippo enclosure.
My sister, cousins and I hopped out of the car. We walked
through the gates. The Mums and Dads paid as we played
on the enormous, shiny, fake lizard. Then we had a Family
photo in front of a large square green nature wall. We
walked down a steep, straight path where we
discovered 6 otters feeding on 3 snapper. There were
3 adults and 3 babies. The babies were cute,hairy and cheeky. Then we went to the hippo enclosure. Watching them,I  guessed they were about 2 and an half metres long and about 1 metre wide. We saw lots of other animals like the meerkats, tigers, porcupines, lions and Elephants.
Although it was a very long, hot and tiring day, I still had lots of fun with my cousins.

Hohua's Holiday Story

Learning to ride a bike is not easy my Dad said that we could ride our my sister was uncomfortable with her bike because it was to big for her.So we took turns on my bike.My Dad helped me get on the bike.My Dad tried to make me balance by letting go.Most of the time I fell down but a couple of times I balanced.Finally I could ride it.We weren’t allowed to go down hill because we might go really fast and crash.So we only went to the end of the road and back.We stayed there for about 1 hour and half an hour.When we went back home I felt proud because I learnt how to ride a bike with no training wheels.But my sister learnt how to ride it first and she never fell down,its ok though because she is older than me.

Ahmad's holiday story

School was over for the term and I went to my home. When I got home I said hi to my mum and went into my room.I changed my clothes and took a bath.Then I ate my food and watched T.V . A couple of days later I went to a party , all my friends were there. When I came back from the party I played on my laptop before I went to sleep. During the rest of my holiday I watched movies . I went to birthdays , parties and I visited new places.I also skyped family members in Pakistan, Canada and USA.  I did a lot of research on animals.  I learned about Mice, Killer Whales, Lions, Crocodiles and Blue Whales.  I had a lot of fun in the holidays.

Jay's Holiday Story

I could feel my heart beating quickly in my chest my body wouldn’t sit still. The movie the minions had just started. I went with my Brother My Sister My Dad and I My Mum stayed home. My favourite characters from The Minions are Kevin And Bob especially when Bob falls into the trashcan in the middle of the movie we got of the cinema and drove to the doctors because my brother and I had skin infection on our cheeks also on both of our foreheads. Afterwards going to the doctors we went to have McDonalds while we were there I saw Harry come inside I said hi to harry that’s when he realised I was there too, harry while talking to a friend, Harry slowly came through the automatic glass door. After eating a ton my brother and I quickly walked in to the amazing massive,colourful play room. We decided to play tag, hide and seek and reverse tag with other kids Then, We went home in our silver metal type car I had a wonderful time. It was the best time of my holiday ten out of ten.

My friend Amelia and i went to Sylvia Park on Thursday in the Holidays. When we got there it was 12:00pm so we had some lunch. After we had our lunch we played in the playground. 

When we finished playing in the playground we went looking for a laptop charger. We went looking for it because my dads laptop charger was not workings. Later Amelia wanted to have Ice cream so my dad bought us some. I had a rainbow flavored one and Amelia had a strawberry flavored one it was tasty When we finished shopping we went to Amelia’s house to drop her back home. Finally we went to our home. 

I had a great time playing and shopping with Amelia.

Izzi's holiday story

Bump! My bottom hit the floor on the roller blading disco rink.It was my first time roller blading.I didn’t know how to get up from the ground on roller blades so my mum had to help me.I went with my mum,my brother Damian and my cousin Emma.Then a man came took my hands and then my brothers hands and took us to the wall of the disco rink were lots of people were.The man showed us what to do and he told us how to get up if we fell.Then my mum looked around and asked “wheres Emma?” Emma was frightened to go on the rink because she didn’t want to fall.She was at the entrance to the rink so then the man helped her and told her what to do.So then she was staying close to the wall like me.Soon I got better and better.Then I tried to track my mum but she was so fast and in the time she did five laps I only did two laps.Also, I did smaller laps so it was easier for me.My brother found it boring so he went on the bouncy castle.While he was on the bouncy castle I was roller blading then my brother asked my mum  “when are we going?” My mum replied by saying“ In ten minutes.” So we did are last minutes of roller blading and then we  went to have a look at the mall and bought some snacks because we were hungry.Also we looked in a few shops then went back to the car and Broom! Broom! We were home.  

Daeun’s holiday story

Yay !!! my hands were up in the air while I was yelling. My brother and I were going to have a sleepover! Saturday to Sunday! Our sleepover was with my friend Jerome and my brother’s best friend Martin. When they picked us up we first decided we were going to go to Jump but when we got there.There were so many people it felt like there were millions there so we didn’t want to go when it was so busy so we suggested we could go to Extreme entertainment. Jerome,Martin,my brother and I argued with each other in the car. We were arguing about whether we should go to Extreme entertainment. Now or at night time. Jerome and I wanted to go at night but my brother and Martin wanted to go NOW!!! So we had to persuade Min (brother)and Martin to go at night. Finally they agreed We then went to Jerome’s house. The first thing we did was play wii (a sports games) Next we decided what we could do’ we thought about playing Mine craft. After Mine craft we went to Extreme entertainment.When we got to Extreme we first went on the bumpy bumper cars. Bump! Bump! Bump! went my car. Then we played bowling and I won! I was so happy . My score was 98,Jerome’s was 90,my brother’s was 68 and my brother’s friend was 60. Then we went home We brushed our teeth,we watched some T.V and at last we went to sleep. The next day we got ready for church. When Jerome and I got to church  we did some singing in korean and then some working in small groups about god. sadly Min and I had to go home. My Dad started the engine and the engine went Broom! Broom! My brother and I went happily home.

Rishap’s holiday story

It was an exciting day. It was my sister’s birthday. My mum, my dad and I made a birthday card for her while she was sleeping. My friend came over and knocked  on the door I opened the door he bought a necklace as a gift for my sister. My sister’s friend came over with a gift for her and a card.The gift was a green and purple handbag.My friend and I woke her up,my dad made pizza. It smelled delicious and he also bought KFC. Every one said surprise high pitched and loudly like a girl. My sister opened her gift and the card, we ate the food it was so yummy. She had the best day ever in her life.

Obstacle Course with our little friends

Today we had a visit from 10 little people from Bear Park.  Ashita and Billie ran a couple of sports activities for them to try helped by Mitchell and Daeun.  The little people had a great time crawling through tunnels trying obstacles and throwing bean bags into a bucket.  It was great to share our games with others and has taught us heaps about how to modify small activities for a variety of ages.

Arias Holiday story

               

I peeked through the sliding glass door. I could see Azariah’s lounge room. She opened the door and led me to her amazing room. I put my stuff next to her bed, I was there for a sleepover. We went outside and played a game of master, it was a lot of fun. Then we went back on inside and went on our tablets, after playing games and watching videos. Then we played blind mans bluff. We had to get dressed,ready for bed at six 6:00 and have dinner. We had pizza for dinner it was delicious. After that we went  back into Azariah’s room and played some games then we had to go to bed. In the morning we had left over pizza for breakfast. After that we went to the dentist for Azariahs sisters appointment. Then I got dropped of I had a lot of fun at their house.

Shohei's holiday story

Shohei’s amazing holiday story

My body was numb and my hands were much pinker than usual.

It was freezing cold at Paradise Iceskating. My mum gave us the skating shoes, they were bit of a pain to get on but I managed to fit my feet into them.

I carefully walked towards the ice. It felt weird walking in the skates, they had sharp blades on the bottom that were making my feet wobble.

The ice  was slippery, I was able to stand up then all of a sudden I lost my balance I slipped and landed on my bottom. My big brother helped me get up. It hurt a little and made my bottom really cold. When I was skating I slipped again and hit my knee so hard that it hurt. It took me a few times to learn how to stay on my feet.

While I was skating my mum was helping my little brother because he was slipping all the time. When I was tired I went to the bench to rest and I ate a cupcake and some crackers.

After we had finished skating we went outside. There was a big pile of ice it had come from the truck that smooths the ice. We threw the ice at each other, it was awesome.       By Shohei

Ashita's Holiday Fun

As I was playing with my friends I overheard my mum and dad saying that, my five friends and I could go to the movies,

to watch Inside out. It was the second week of my happy holidays. We were going to go to the movies the next day (Wednesday).

On Wednesday the train we were catching was supposed to leave at 1:30 but instead it went at 1:40 and we got to the cinemas by 2:00. Luckily the movie didn’t start until 2:15 so we had time to get all of the drinks, the food, the tickets and get to cinema number 5. I got coke and a medium size box of popcorn to share with my friend Anjika. When the movie was finished our friend Anubha (who is 16) gave us ice cream. When I got home I did my studies, including Kumon maths reading booklets and I also wrote a short story about the movies.

Izzi's Volcano experiment

Today Izzi shared with us her volcano kit.

She completed the experiment and we watched the chemical reaction.  As she was doing it, we noticed a few things and we have some questions.

Izzi used bicarbonate of soda, citric acid, food colouring, water and lava foam to create the chemical reaction.

We noticed:

• It looks like foam
• it was fizzy
• it looked like a milk shake
• there was a chemical reaction
• when we crushed up the lava bombs the reaction was much more noticeable (Rico and Jacob thought this was because the liquid had more lava bomb that it was touching so it was able to react with more and this created a bigger reaction, they said that when it was a solid lava bomb it was just reacting with the outside)

We wonder:

• Why do these reactions happen?
• Why was the reaction different both times?
• How does the water help the reaction work?
• Why was the reaction slower?
• What is real lava made out of?

The Water Dragon

My animal is a water dragon. A water dragon is a reptile because it hatches from an egg and it has scales and it doesn’t need it mother’s help.

As you can see a water dragon is green. A full grown water dragon weighs only 1 kilogram, and its length is zero point nine meters long! A water dragons height is about 5 inches long. It also has a third eye for sensing when it is day or night.

Crickets, mealworms and worms are perfect for a water dragon to eat. Little pieces of fruit and veggies will make a water dragon big and strong. Any insect or small fish will do just fine. 

The Chinese water dragon is found in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Burma, and in southern China.

During the mating season males have a bright red mark on their chest. It is common for a male water dragon to have significantly large injuries. Once the male is found, he mates with all the females in his territory. After mating the female digs a hole in the soft sand near the riverbank where she lays fifteen to  twenty five eggs. Then she abandons the eggs. Depending on the temperature they can that up to three months to hatch are mini replicas of their parents and are totally independent from birth.

I think water dragons should be kept in captivity because water dragons habitat is being destroyed by us humans. So we should at least do something nice to it. Even though water dragons are not endangered it’s habitat is being destroyed.

The elephant a mammal because it drinks its mothers milk, breathes air, is warm blooded, has hair and can communicate with other elephants. 

The elephant has grey hairy skin. It can grow from 2.5 to 4 meters tall and weigh up to[2,268 to 6,350 kilograms. An elephant has four legs, one head, two tusks and a trunk. The tusks are useful because elephants can use them attack to their predators, or to get food.

Elephants are known as herbivores because they only eat plants.The elephant's diet is grasses, leaves, bamboo and roots. It's also known to eat crops like bananas and sugarcane. An adult elephant can eat an enormous amount of food a day (eats around 150kg). African elephants have a long trunk that lets it reach high trees to get food. Another adaptation is it uses it’s tusks to dig dirt and get roots to eat. Elephant's predators are lions, jaguars and leopards but this only if they’re unlucky. Carnivores especially target the smaller baby calves. 

The habitat of elephants include tropical islands and parts of Africa,  Asia and India.There are three types of elephant: the Samatran elephant, Asian elephant and Indian elephant.

Elephants can live up to 60 years in the wild. Females are called cows and male elephants are called bulls. A baby is called a calf. The female elephant gives birth at 22 months old. A female elephant doesn’t have tusks but bulls do. It takes 10 years before they make another baby.  

The Asian elephant is endangered because they are getting hunted by humans. Humans only hunt the bull [male] because they have tusks and females don’t have tusks. In the wild they don’t get much food. I believe that elephants should be kept in the zoo because they can do breeding programmes to make more babies.The number of  elephants would increase. If an elephant was kept in captivity the zookeepers would need to make a big cage and give it toys like toys to play with, food and water and other elephants for company. The elephant needs to be like a wild elephant.

Polar bears are mammals because they have a back bone, are warm blooded, drink milk as babies, communicate and have fur.

Polar bears have transparent see through fur but it looks like white fur because of the snow. The skin under the fur is black. the polar bear is camouflaged in the snow because their transparent reflects light it even has fur on it soles of it feet to keep it warm. Polar bears have 4 legs, a tail like a bunny, 2eyes and 2 ears. They can weigh up to 680 kg. They have 42 teeth and a strong jaw to eat. The polar bear can have a height of up to 2.5m.

Brown bears  and polar bears  are the world ‘s largest land meat eaters. .the pray of the polar is fish , seals, walruses ,beluga whales, birds, birds eggs, the bowhead whale and vegetation. The Adult Polar Bear’s Predators are humans. The cub’s predators are wolves and other carnivores. In a year polar bear has to eat around 72 seals to survive. Most polar bears sleep for seven to eight hours in a day. Polar bears hunt at day time. All polar bears have an excellent sense of smell to find seals 1.6km away.

Countries like Alaska, the Arctic,Canada, Russia and Greenland are homes for the polar bears. Habitat for polar bears is icy areas. In winter days are short and nights are very long. In mid winter days the sun does not rise at all.

20-30 years is how long a polar bear usually live for. The baby polar bears are called cubs, cubs live with their mother for 18 -30 months. Polar bear cubs are born live. 2 tiny cubs are born at the same time.

The longest known living polar bear in the world is 45 years old.  Polar bears can survive for 8 months with out food. The scientific name for polar bears are urus maritmimas, Polar Bears can reach speeds up to 40 kph (25mph) on land and 10kph in water

Polar bears are in danger of becoming extinct. They are shot for their skin and also their habitat is melting because of climate change. I think that Polar bears should be kept in the zoo because they have more places to play and breeding programmes so they can have more babies. Polar bears needs in captivity are Red Cylinders, a pumpkin for halloween and an easter bunny for easter.

The cheetah is a mammal because it has a back bone, is warm blooded, drinks milk as a baby, has fur and communicates.

Belonging to the cat family, cheetahs have 4 legs, paws, whiskers, sharp teeth and a long tail to help them balance. Their black, white and yellow spotted fur helps camouflage  them when they’re hunting. They are very fast running. Cheetahs can run up to 113 km per hour and get up to that speed in 3 seconds. The weight of a cheetah is 21-72 kg (adult) and height is 90 cm (adult) at the shoulder).

 

Cheetahs are carnivores. They eat large eagles, lions, hyenas, rabbits and other meat including gazelles, wild bears, impalas and smaller hoofed animals. They like to hunt in groups, knock their prey to the ground and kill it with a suffocating. They must eat quickly before they lose the kills to other bigger, more aggressive carnivores.

Cheetahs are found in the African savannah (grassy areas). They live amongst trees, long thick grass, dry dirt and rocks. Its habitat is really sunny and warm. 

Cheetahs live  for 10- 12 years. They have 2-4 cubs at a time. Cubs cannot see when they are born so they only survive because their mother takes care of them. Cheetah cubs live with their mother for around 1 and a half years.

Cheetahs are in endangered because humans are building houses on their land and are killing them for their fur. They should be kept in captivity so they don't die out. In a zoo, cheetahs would need to hunt and play with toys to stop them from getting bored. They like to be in groups so they would have to have to live with other cheetahs.

Polar bears are mammals because they drink their mothers milk, are warm blooded, have fur, communicate and breathe air.

Polar bears have transparent (see-through) fur but it looks white because of the snow. The polar bears skin is really, really thick so they won’t get cold and suffocate.  They have really sharp teeth for eating big things.

Their eyes are all black. Their claws grow up to 31 cm. Polar bear ears are hidden because they're white, the same as their bodies. When the polar bear stands up, it is about three metres tall and 2.4-3 metres when it is on four legs.  It weighs 500kg. It has whiskers.  

The polar bear eats fish, seals, walruses and more.  Their fur helps them camouflage in the snow. They pounce when they see something moving.  When they get really angry they can sometimes eat their cubs.  They walk very far distances to find their food.  They wait until a seal comes up to the top of the water, then they they pounce right on the seal and kill it.  They like to hunt in groups and are really careful when they pounce on their prey so they wont get hurt.

The polar bear lives in the Arctic, Canada, Alaska, Russia and Greenland.  They live mainly on the islands and sea ice.

Baby polar bears (or cubs) are born alive.  20-30 years is how long polar bears can live for.  The scientific name for polar bear is ursus  maritimes.  The baby polar bear stays with it’s mum for about 18 to 20 months.

There are over 25,000 polar bears in the world. Polar bears are really badly endangered because they are shot by humans for their fur.  Also, their habitat of sea ice is melting.  I believe polar bears should not be kept in the zoo.  A better place for them to live is the Arctic so they can hunt their own food.  Zoo enclosures wouldn’t be big enough or be the right temperature.

  

Polar bears should not live in the zoo because their enclosures wouldn't be enough like their real habitat. For example, they might just paint the ground white instead of having real snow and ice.  And where would zoo keepers get the live seals from that polar bears need to hunt to keep them healthy?

The Polar beats has a tail that looks like a bunny tail. It weighs 410 to 720 kg. When polar bears stand up it is 3 metres tall. Polar bears have 4 legs and 2 eyes, also 2 ears and a nose. The white fur of polar bears helps them camouflage against the snow. There are up to 2000-2500 polar bears in the world.

Polar Bears are carnivores.  Prey for Polar bears includes seals, walruses, berries, Belga Whales, Narwhals and fish. Predators for Polar bears are Humans. Polar Bears pounce on their prey or use their sharp teeth to catch it. A polar bear eats around 72 seals every year. Polar bears mostly sleep for 7 hours to 8 hours night time.

Countries such as the Arctic, Us, Canada, Alaska, Russia and Greenland are all homes for Polar Bears. Habitat for Polar Bear is areas of sea ice. The Polar bear's Habitat is very cold.

Pandas are big mammals with white and black fur. They are mammals because they breathe air, have a back bone, drink their mothers milk, are born alive and communicate.

Pandas belong to the bear family. They can grow up to 3 feet long as male and 2 and a half feet as female when adults. Pandas can weigh up to 180 kg as females and 220kg as males. Its special features are having a 6th finger to hold bamboo. 

The Panda's diet is is bamboo leaves and it can also eat fish so its not 100% herbivore. Pandas spend 16-18 hours a day eating bamboo because bamboo doesn't contain many nutrients. Pandas move around to get food somewhere else for example, when its winter they move around. They find their food on trees. Panda's predators are jackals, snow leopards and yellow throated martens (jungle cats. 

Pandas live in the forest, jungle and mountains of central China. You can see pandas in the zoo. It's habitat has bamboo, leaves, plants and other animals and it's habitat temperature is warm.

When Pandas are babies they are called cubs. In the wild pandas can live up to 20 years. Panda cubs are protected by their mother because the father leaves after breeding.  Female pandas are  pregnant for 3 - 4 months and baby pandas are born pink.

The giant panda is endangered. There are 1,600 pandas left in the wild so pandas should be kept in zoos so breeding programs can help increase the panda population. Already 300 pandas are kept in zoos otherwise the predators might eat them. Pandas kept in zoos need bamboo, things to climb and boxes to play with. If you are designing an enclosure for pandas you should put in heaps of bamboo, the temperature needs to be warm and they need friends to play with. 

Information Report: Komodo Dragons by Harry

The Komodo dragon is also called a monitor lizard. It is a reptile because it has dry scales and is cold-blooded. It is the biggest lizard in the world.

The Komodo dragon is longer then a couch (3 metres) and weighs 70 kilograms. They have a flat head, 4 bowed legs, sharp claws and a long forked tongue that they use to smell and taste. They have a long wavy tail. Their scaly skin is greylish-brown which they use for camouflage. They have sharp teeth like sharks.

Komodo dragons eat wild pigs, deer, boars and buffalos. Sometimes they even eat humans. They are carnivores (meat eaters). They don’t have predators. They are good hunters and have venom (poison) in their saliva (like snakes). 

Komodo dragons live in grasslands, forests and beaches. They are found on 4 island in Indonesia (Komodo, Flores, Gili and Damai)

Komodo dragons can live for 30 years. The females lay about 30 eggs. The baby Komodo dragons are called "hatchlings’’ and it’s good that the hatchlings climb up trees because if an adult Komodo dragon comes it will eat the babies. When they are 4 years old they are big enough to come down out of the trees.

Information Report: Fahim - Lions

Lions are mammals because they are vertebrates, they breathe air, they have fur, they communicate and they drink their mother’s milk when they are cubs.The golden mane thats belongs to the male lion makes it looks beautiful but also very fierce. 

Belonging to the cat family, lions share many features of others cats including having 4 legs, a tough body and whiskers . The Barbary lion is the biggest type of lion. Lions have sharp claws on their paws that help them to kill their prey. Male lions weigh around 190 kg and grow as high as 1.2 m. 

Lions are known as carnivores as they eat meat. They eat other mammals like goats, wild cats, kite (bird) and other animals. At night time is the time when lions hunt their prey because they have better eyesight. 90 kilograms of meat is eaten by a lion in a single sitting. The lion has no predators because it is the top of its food chain and mostly  they are the predators to other mammals, however they are hunted by humans. 

Africa and Asia are the countries home to lions. Open woodlands or grass lands are their natural habitat. Other countries they used to be found in were the Middle East and Greece. The temperature they live in is not cold because they don’t have enough fur to keep warm from the cold. 

In the wild adult lions live for 10-14 years but some can live up to 20 years. They don’t die in those years because they don’t have predators. The gestation period for the lioness (female) is 110 days. 1-4 cubs is how many lions a mother gives birth to at a time. Cubs stay with their parents for 2 years. When the cubs come out they don’t come out of eggs they come out alive. 

Lions are on the list of endangered species because they are squeezed out of their natural habitat by humans, but there are still 32,000 lions left. Dangerous animals like lions should be kept in zoos because if are not, they would be killing people and eating animals and it could go crazy. Some things they would need to survive happily in a zoo are water, food, entertainment but mostly they need each other because the lioness do the hunting and the lion do the leading. Entertainment that they would need would be making prey animals using cardboard for the lion to destroy. Another way to entertain them is to put food in ice so the lion can break it open to get the food.
